The last two Lantern Lyceums were about friction and the way we think about time. June was about the retreat — why stepping back is part of the work, not a reward for it. July picks up exactly where that left off. Because here’s what most people miss: the value of stepping back isn’t in the pause itself. It’s in what the distance shows you.
You can’t see the picture when you’re inside the frame.
Proximity creates blind spots — in your work, your relationships, your habits, the commitments you’ve been meaning to revisit. The things you’re most inside of are often the things you see least clearly. And the fix isn’t always a big trip or a long break. Sometimes it’s a conversation with someone outside your situation. A question from someone with no stake in your answer. A walk without your phone.
Distance isn’t a luxury. It’s how you learn to see.
In this session we’ll look at why proximity creates blind spots and what to do about it, the difference between distance you travel to and distance you create, why the return matters as much as the retreat, and how to bring the view back with you instead of leaving it at the airport.
